PROLOGUE SEASON 5 PART 2
MONMARTRE CEMETERY.
(FAINT MUSIC)
INTERVIEWER
How are you holding up Alvina?
ALVINA
What do you mean?
INTERVIEWER
Are you getting tired of my reminiscing?
ALVINA
Are you joking? I have so many questions! I feel we've barely scratched the surface...
INTERVIEWER
Oh?
(MEOW)
ALVINA
Kozlowski was Itthobal... Itthobal of Tyre? Or Behrem? Or... I forget the other names... His tears... They really have the power of healing?
(INTERVIEWER HUMS QUIETLY)
Or... that's a metaphor right? Right? How did the two of you meet anyway? Oh, and you said Amelia Earhart, I mean Martha, I mean Amelia... saved you. You said you were running away. From what?
BEAT.
The Amelia Project before Amelia... That's something I really know nothing about. I mean for all that happened before I tried to glean what I could from the very very sparse notes in the archives, but...
INTERVIEWER
(CHUCKLES)
Case files were an afterthought.
ALVINA
Yeah, that's putting it generously. I can't believe you didn't put more effort into preserving these stories.
INTERVIEWER
Well, the next part of the story is about The Brotherhood of the Phoenix.
BEAT.
But first there is something I need to do.
ALVINA
What?
INTERVIEWER
I need to make a phone call.
ALVINA
You want to go back to the office now?
INTERVIEWER
Nono.
ALVINA
Oh yeah, you took your phone... Why? (CONFUSED) You never take your phone! You don't "believe" in mobile phones, remember?
INTERVIEWER
Well, yes. This is important.
(MEOW)
ALVINA
Who are you calling?
INTERVIEWER
I won't be long. Stroke the cat while I'm gone.
ALVINA
Oh... okay.
(THE INTERVIEWER WALKS UP THE PATH AND AROUND A BEND. HE GETS OUT HIS PHONE AND DIALS. WE HEAR LORRAINE'S VOICEMAIL THROUGH HIS PHONE)
INTERVIEWER
(WHILE THE VOICEMAIL PLAYS)
Come on... Pick up Lorraine...
LORRAINE
(AMELIA-IMITATION)
Congratulations, you have reached... Lorraine Fletcher.
If you're not serious about this, hang up. Now.
INTERVIEWER
Please please pick up…
LORRAINE
Uncle?
(THE INTERVIEWER TAKES A HOPEFUL BREATH BUT THEN SIGHS)
How was that? Mysterious enough for you?
No, seriously, thanks for taking the time to call and sorry I'm out.
I'm sure you have a waiting room full of oil sheikhs, rogue spies and lion tamers to interview, so I won't ramble on.
Oh and yes uncle, the line is secure and I haven't given the number to anyone. This is just for you and me.
(AMELIA-IMITATION AGAIN) Leave your message after the beep.
(BEEP)
INTERVIEWER
Lorraine... If you're there please pick up.
I... I know we didn't leave on the best of terms Lorraine. I... I don't want you to remember me like that...
I'm sorry.
I'm here with Alvina. Telling her my story. I would love you to be here too.
At least call me back.
(PAUSE)
I love you Lorraine.
END OF PROLOGUE.
